Working with junior golfers has become a priority for Martha as she is a coach with The First Tee of Lake Erie (in Defiance) and is the Site Director of the LPGA-USGA Jr. Golf program in Defiance.
Martha had an outstanding amateur golf career before joining the professional ranks in 2001. Her most outstanding accomplishments in amateur golf included qualifying for the U.S. Amateur, the U.S. Mid-Amateur numerous times, and capturing the runner-up position of the Ohio Women’s Amateur in 1998.
She has recently completed a 30-year career in the Ohio public schools as a math teacher and coach. Coaching the sports of golf, cross country, track, volleyball, and basketball provided a variety of experiences for Martha. With golf her true passion, she started the women’s golf programs at her alma maters, Defiance College (1997) and Defiance High School (2001).

Martha will be emphasizing the instruction of new golfers and jr. golfers in an attempt to grow the game of golf in the area.
She is the founder and Tournament Director of the Ohio Women’s Open, which will be held the tenth time this August at Eagle Rock Golf Club. Martha is also the Site Director of the LPGA-USGA Girls Golf organization and our First Tee program. Martha and her family gave back to Defiance High School in 2009 in the form of an indoor golf facility, which is named after her.
Martha is a 1977 graduate of Defiance High School and 1981 graduate of Defiance College. She earned a Master’s in Education from Bowling Green State University in 1986. She has one son, Matthew, who is a social worker with the Renewed Minds Agency.
